On 14 October 2025 at Naval Base Karwar, Karnataka, Chief of the Naval Staff Adm Dinesh K Tripathi inaugurated residential accommodation for senior sailors and defence civilians under Phase IIA of Project Seabird. It comprises four towers with 240 dwelling units for senior sailors and four towers with 240 units for naval defence civilians; fully developed, the townships will have 2,160 units for senior sailors and 3,168 for civilians. Phase IIA will support berthing of many ships and submarines and includes a dual-use Naval Air Station, a naval dockyard and four covered dry berths, housing about 10,000 personnel with families. It has created 7,000 direct and 25,000 indirect jobs, sources over 90% of materials domestically, and will be IGBC Gold-rated.
