Project 17A stealth frigate Himgiri delivered to Indian Navy at GRSE, Kolkata

On 31 July 2025 at GRSE, Kolkata, Himgiri (Yard 3022), the third Nilgiri-class (Project 17A) frigate and the first of the class built by GRSE, was delivered to the Indian Navy.

Himgiri (Yard 3022), the third ship of the Nilgiri class (Project 17A) and the first of the class built at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), was delivered to the Indian Navy at GRSE, Kolkata, on 31 July 2025. The frigate revives the name of the earlier INS Himgiri, a Leander-class frigate decommissioned on 6 May 2005 after 30 years of service. Designed by the Warship Design Bureau, P17A frigates have Combined Diesel or Gas (CODOG) propulsion and carry a supersonic surface-to-surface missile system, a medium-range surface-to-air missile system, a 76 mm gun and 30 mm and 12.7 mm close-in weapon systems. The project has 75% indigenous content and has involved over 200 MSMEs at GRSE.
