President Murmu makes first-ever visit by an Indian President to Mauritania; four MoUs signed

On 16 October 2024, in Mauritania, President Droupadi Murmu held talks with President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, in the first visit by an Indian President to the country; four MoUs were signed.

Summary

On 16 October 2024, President Droupadi Murmu visited Mauritania, the second leg of her State Visits to Algeria, Mauritania and Malawi; it was the first visit by an Indian President to Mauritania. She was received at Nouakchott-Oumtounsy Airport, addressed the Indian community, and held talks with President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani at the Presidential Palace. The two leaders witnessed the signing and exchange of four MoUs on training of diplomats, cultural exchange, visa exemption and foreign office consultations. Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar accompanied her. She then left for Malawi.
