President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the Centenary Celebration of the Ol Chiki script, organised by the Ministry of Culture, in New Delhi on 16 February 2026. She said that before Ol Chiki, the Santhali language was written in the Roman, Devanagari, Oriya and Bengali scripts, which could not correctly render its original sounds. She urged children to learn their mother tongue, Santhali, in the Ol Chiki script alongside other languages. Static link: Pandit Raghunath Murmu invented the Ol Chiki script in 1925, and it has since been used for Santhali and become a symbol of Santal identity.
