President Murmu makes first-ever Indian Presidential visit to Botswana, addresses its National Assembly

President Droupadi Murmu held talks with Botswana's President Duma Gideon Boko in Gaborone and addressed Botswana's National Assembly on 12 November 2025, during the first-ever visit by an Indian President to Botswana, the final leg of her State Visit to Angola and Botswana.

President Murmu reached Gaborone on 11 November, and President Boko said it was the first State Visit Botswana had hosted from any country since he took office. In one-to-one and delegation-level talks, the two sides agreed to expand cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture, renewable energy, health, education, skills, defence and digital technology, and Murmu thanked Botswana for agreeing to send cheetahs to India. Addressing the National Assembly, received by Speaker Dithapelo L. Keorapetse, she said India's vision of 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047 and Africa's 'Agenda 2063' offer an opportunity for close collaboration. The release noted that the Assembly is advised by the Ntlo ya Dikgosi, a council of tribal chiefs.
