President Droupadi Murmu attended the funeral Mass of His Holiness Pope Francis at Saint Peter's Square in Vatican City on 26 April 2025. The official Indian delegation also included Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Minority Affairs George Kurian, and Joshua De Souza, Deputy Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly. The Ministry of External Affairs had announced on 24 April that the President would visit Vatican City on 25–26 April to attend the state funeral and offer condolences on behalf of the government and people of India, as reported by The Hindu (PTI). Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the President paid homage to Pope Francis on behalf of the people of India.
