President Droupadi Murmu reached Luanda on 8 November 2025 on the first leg of her State Visit to Angola and Botswana, the first visit by an Indian President to Angola. In talks with President João Lourenço on 9 November, she said Angola plays an important role in India's energy security, and the two sides agreed to deepen cooperation bilaterally and under the India–Africa Forum Summit framework. MoUs on cooperation in fisheries, aquaculture and marine resources, and on consular matters were exchanged, and President Murmu welcomed Angola's decision to join the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) and the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA).
