On 28 October 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the opening plenary of the Eighth Session of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) Assembly. It was the first address by a President of India to the ISA Assembly. She urged member countries to link solar energy with job creation, women's leadership, rural livelihoods and digital inclusion. New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi is President of the ISA Assembly, and France is co-president. ISA was launched by India and France at COP21 in Paris in 2015 and has 125 member and signatory countries. On 6 December 2017, 15 countries had signed and ratified the ISA Framework Agreement, making ISA the first international intergovernmental organisation headquartered in India.
