The 6th National Water Awards honoured 46 winners, including joint winners, across 10 categories for water conservation and management; 100 awardees were also recognised for building groundwater recharge structures under the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) initiative. In the best-state category Maharashtra came first, Gujarat second and Haryana third. President Droupadi Murmu noted that more than 35 lakh groundwater recharge structures have been built since JSJB was launched last year, and recalled that 'Sujalam', the first word of Vande Mataram, means rich in good water.
