Ponduru Khadi, a hand-woven cotton fabric from Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, has been granted the Geographical Indication (GI) tag in favour of KVIC, the MSME Ministry said on 16 January 2026.

Ponduru Khadi of Andhra Pradesh has been granted the Geographical Indication (GI) tag, with the registration awarded by the Geographical Indications Registry in favour of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). The traditional hand-woven cotton fabric, locally known as Patnulu, is produced in Ponduru village of Srikakulam district from Hill cotton, Punasa cotton and Red cotton grown in the same region. Cleaning, spinning and weaving are all done by hand. KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar said the commission will felicitate the artisans and expand the fabric's global outreach.
