On 8 October 2025 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Phase 1 of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), built at a cost of around ₹19,650 crore. NMIA is India's largest greenfield airport project, developed under a public–private partnership, and is the second international airport for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region alongside Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. Spread over 1,160 ha and shaped like a lotus, it will eventually handle 90 million passengers and 3.25 million metric tonnes of cargo a year; it will have Sustainable Aviation Fuel storage, about 47 MW of solar power, and will be the first airport in India connected by Water Taxi. The PM also inaugurated Phase 2B (Acharya Atre Chowk–Cuffe Parade, about ₹12,200 crore) of Mumbai Metro Line 3 and dedicated the whole Aqua Line — Mumbai's first fully underground metro, 33.5 km with 27 stations, built for over ₹37,270 crore. He launched 'Mumbai One', an integrated ticketing app for 11 public transport operators, and Maharashtra's Short-Term Employability Program (STEP) across 400 government ITIs and 150 technical high schools. He said UDAN and new airports have made India the world's third-largest domestic aviation market.
