Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the 60th anniversary celebrations of the independence of Maldives as Guest of Honour in Male on 26 July 2025. Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to attend the Maldives' Independence Day celebrations, and the first foreign leader at the level of Head of State or Government to be hosted by President Mohamed Muizzu.
