The Ken-Betwa River Linking National Project, the country's first river interlinking project under the National Perspective Plan, had its foundation stone laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh, on 25 December 2024, the 100th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The project, which includes the Daudhan dam, will irrigate 10 districts of Madhya Pradesh, including Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Panna, Damoh and Sagar, benefit districts in Uttar Pradesh, provide drinking water and add more than 100 MW of hydropower. At the same event the Prime Minister inaugurated the Omkareshwar floating solar project, laid the foundation stone of 1,153 Atal Gram Sushasan buildings, and released a commemorative stamp and coin marking Vajpayee's centenary. He said Madhya Pradesh had become the first State to initiate two projects under the river linking campaign.
