PM and Sri Lanka President inaugurate India-assisted Maho–Omanthai railway line and launch Maho–Anuradhapura signalling project
On 6 April 2025 in Anuradhapura, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lanka President Anura Kumara Disanayaka inaugurated the 128 km Maho–Omanthai railway line refurbished with Indian assistance and visited the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi temple.

On the last day of his visit to Sri Lanka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accompanied by President Anura Kumara Disanayaka, inaugurated the 128 km Maho–Omanthai railway line refurbished with Indian assistance of US$91.27 million, and launched construction of an advanced signalling system from Maho to Anuradhapura being built with Indian grant assistance of US$14.89 million. The two leaders also visited the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi temple in Anuradhapura and offered prayers at the Mahabodhi tree, which is believed to have grown from the Bo sapling brought to Sri Lanka from India by Sangamitta Maha Theri in the 3rd century BCE.
