An ISA/IPEA building with ground and first floors had been built in 2014 to support India's role as an International Searching Authority (ISA) and International Preliminary Examining Authority (IPEA) under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). The Government approved its expansion in 2018, and the project, undertaken by the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC), was completed in 2025 at a cost of about ₹88 crore. Five new floors were added, taking the built-up area to 140,120 sq ft; the facility can accommodate over 700 personnel, against 200 in the old IPO building. It houses the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks (CGPDTM) and, on the seventh floor, an International Training Centre.
