On 14 November 2024, Department of Science and Technology Secretary Prof Abhay Karandikar launched Operation Dronagiri, a pilot project under the National Geospatial Policy 2022 to show how geospatial technologies can improve citizens' quality of life and ease of doing business. In its first phase it will run in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. The Integrated Geospatial Data Sharing Interface (GDI), unveiled the same day, enables data sharing and analysis for urban planning, environmental monitoring and disaster management. A nationwide rollout is envisaged under a PPP model, similar to UPI's deployment.
