On 16 October 2024, at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah took oath as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, becoming the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha administered the oath of office and secrecy. Surinder Kumar Choudhary was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister, and five ministers in all took oath along with Abdullah. It is Abdullah's second term as Chief Minister, after 2009. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated him on taking oath.
