Tributes to G. V. Mavalankar, first Speaker of Lok Sabha, on his birth anniversary

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla paid floral tributes to Ganesh Vasudev Mavalankar, the first Speaker of Lok Sabha, in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan on his birth anniversary on 27 November 2025.

Summary

Mavalankar was born on 27 November 1888 in Baroda (present-day Gujarat). He became a member of the Bombay Legislative Assembly from Ahmedabad in 1937 and was its Speaker until 1946, then presided over the Sixth Central Legislative Assembly. After 1947 he was Speaker of the Constituent Assembly (Legislative) and of the Provisional Parliament. He was unanimously elected Speaker of the First Lok Sabha on 15 May 1952 and served until his death on 27 February 1956. Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh also paid tributes.
