On 23 November 2024 at Leh, Ladakh, Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Manohar Lal flagged off NTPC's fleet of green hydrogen buses and travelled 12 km in one of them from the hydrogen filling station to Leh airport. The Green Hydrogen Mobility Project comprises an in-situ 1.7 MW solar plant, a green hydrogen filling station of 80 kg/day capacity and 5 intra-city hydrogen buses; each bus can run 300 km on a single 25 kg fill. At 3,650 m above mean sea level, it is the world's highest-altitude green hydrogen mobility project, designed for low-density air and sub-zero temperatures. NTPC said the station would cut carbon emissions by about 350 tonnes a year.
