NSO releases 'Time Use in India 2024', the second all-India Time Use Survey

The National Statistics Office released the report of the second all-India Time Use Survey (January–December 2024) on 28 March 2025, showing that 74.5% of men and 24.9% of women aged 15–59 took part in paid activities.

Summary

The National Statistics Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, released 'Time Use in India 2024' on 28 March 2025. It is the second all-India Time Use Survey (TUS), conducted from January to December 2024; the first was in 2019. Time-use surveys capture all forms of work, including unpaid domestic and care work not counted in national accounts. Among people aged 15–59, 74.5% of men and 24.9% of women took part in paid activities, spending an average of 421 and 305 minutes a day respectively. In the same age group, 79.2% of men and 43.4% of women took part in SNA production activities, while 45% of men and 93.9% of women took part in non-SNA production activities such as unpaid household work.
