On 10 October 2025 NITI Aayog released a 'Roadmap for Job Creation in the AI Economy', saying India's tech services sector could create up to 4 million new jobs in five years and recommending a National AI Talent Mission.

Summary

On 10 October 2025 NITI Aayog CEO B.V.R. Subrahmanyam released the 'Roadmap for Job Creation in the AI Economy', developed by NITI's Frontier Tech Hub with NASSCOM and BCG. It says AI is already reshaping India's $245 billion technology and customer-experience (CX) sectors, which employ over 9 million people; routine roles such as QA engineers and L1 support agents risk redundancy, and the sector faces significant job displacement by 2031, but it could create up to 4 million new jobs in the next five years. It recommends a National AI Talent Mission built on three pillars, including AI literacy across schools, universities and vocational programmes and a national reskilling engine, working with the existing IndiaAI Mission. NITI Distinguished Fellow Debjani Ghosh said the aim is for India to become the global epicentre of AI talent by 2035.
