Hindustan Shipyard Limited delivered 'Nistar', the first indigenously designed and constructed Diving Support Vessel, to the Indian Navy at Visakhapatnam on 8 July 2025. Built to Indian Register of Shipping rules, the 118-metre ship of nearly 10,000 tons can undertake deep sea saturation diving up to 300 m and side-stage diving up to 75 m, and will serve as the 'Mother Ship' for the Deep Submergence Rescue Vessel to rescue personnel from a disabled submarine. Its remotely operated vehicles can support diver monitoring and salvage up to 1,000 m. The name 'Nistar' comes from Sanskrit and means liberation, rescue or salvation.
