MNRE launches NISE–Toyota pilot to field-test Mirai hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in India
Union New and Renewable Energy Minister Pralhad Joshi launched on 11 December 2025 a pilot project for field trials of hydrogen in mobility, under which Toyota Kirloskar Motor handed its Mirai fuel cell electric vehicle to the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) for testing.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi launched on 11 December 2025 the Pilot Project for field trials on the use of hydrogen in the mobility sector, at an MoU exchange between the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) and Toyota Kirloskar Motor. Under the NISE–Toyota pilot, Toyota's Mirai hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) was handed to NISE for real-world testing on Indian roads. Joshi noted that 'Mirai' means 'Future' in Japanese.
