On 29 November 2024, Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur told the Lok Sabha in a written reply that the ministry's Empowered Committee had approved Ministry of External Affairs proposals for nine One Stop Centres (OSCs) for Indian women facing distress abroad. Seven OSCs with shelter homes will be in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the UAE and Saudi Arabia (Jeddah and Riyadh), and two OSCs without shelter homes in Toronto and Singapore. The MEA has opened a budget line for these nine missions. The Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF), set up in all Indian Missions and Posts abroad, also assists Indian women in distress, including those deserted by overseas Indian or foreign husbands, with counselling and legal services.
