On 7 October 2024, in India, Union Health Minister J P Nadda announced that nutrition support under Ni-kshay Poshan Yojana (NPY) has been increased from Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 per month per patient for the entire duration of treatment, with an additional allocation of Rs 1,040 crore. Energy Dense Nutritional Supplementation (EDNS) will be introduced for patients with BMI below 18.5, covering about 12 lakh underweight patients, and household contacts of TB patients will be covered under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. So far, Rs 3,202 crore has been disbursed to 1.13 crore beneficiaries through DBT under NPY.
