The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Reliance Jio on 2 December 2025 to introduce a telecom-based safety alert system across the National Highway network. Under the NHAI–Jio system, travellers will get advance warnings on their phones through SMS, WhatsApp and high-priority calls as they approach accident-prone stretches, stray-cattle zones, fog-affected areas and emergency diversions. The system will be integrated in phases with NHAI's 'Rajmargyatra' app and emergency helpline 1033, without additional roadside hardware.
