The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced on 13 December 2024 guidelines for upgraded Route Patrolling Vehicles (RPVs) named 'Rajmarg Saathi' to strengthen highway patrolling and incident management. The open rear space of earlier RPVs has been replaced with a closed cabinet with shelves for quick access to emergency equipment. The vehicles will carry dashboard cameras with AI video analytics to identify cracks and potholes, and the road distress data, collected weekly, will be integrated with the NHAI One application. An RPV will be replaced once it exceeds 3,00,000 km or three years of operation, and patrol personnel get a redesigned brilliant blue uniform with a reflective jacket.
