NHAI to deploy Network Survey Vehicles over 20,933 km of National Highways in 23 states
NHAI will deploy Network Survey Vehicles (NSVs) in 23 states covering 20,933 km of National Highways to collect road inventory and pavement condition data, PIB reported on 22 October 2025.
Summary
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will deploy Network Survey Vehicles (NSVs) in 23 states, covering 20,933 km of National Highways, to collect, process and analyse road inventory and pavement condition data, PIB reported on 22 October 2025. The 3D laser-based NSVs use high-resolution 360-degree cameras, DGPS, an Inertial Measurement Unit and a Distance Measuring Indicator to record defects such as cracking and potholes automatically, without human intervention. The data will be uploaded to NHAI's AI-based portal 'Data Lake' for analysis by experts, and preserved in the Road Asset Management System.
