NHAI discontinues KYV for new car FASTags issued from 1 February 2026

NHAI announced on 1 January 2026 that the Know Your Vehicle (KYV) process will be discontinued for all new car FASTags from 1 February 2026, with mandatory VAHAN-based validation before activation instead.

Summary

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced on 1 January 2026 that it will discontinue the Know Your Vehicle (KYV) process for all new FASTags issued to cars, jeeps and vans from 1 February 2026. For existing car FASTags, KYV will no longer be a routine requirement and will be needed only on complaints such as loose FASTags, wrong issuance or misuse. NHAI has instead made VAHAN-based validation mandatory before activation, ended post-activation validation, and allowed RC-based validation by issuer banks only where VAHAN data is unavailable.
