Summary

The National Film Development Corporation–National Film Archive of India (NFDC–NFAI) announced on 9 July 2026 that the Malayalam classic 'Kireedam' (1989) would return to theatres in India and overseas on 10 July 2026 in a restored 4K version with Dolby Atmos sound. The original camera negative had deteriorated, so the restoration was based on a 35mm release print preserved by NFAI for over 30 years, under the National Film Heritage Mission. Directed by Siby Malayil and written by A. K. Lohithadas, 'Kireedam' stars Mohanlal as Sethumadhavan; the restored film had its world premiere at the 55th International Film Festival of India.
