The National Turmeric Board was inaugurated by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi on 14 January 2025, with its headquarters at Nizamabad, Telangana. Piyush Goyal announced Palle Ganga Reddy as the Board's first Chairperson. The Board will focus on the welfare of turmeric farmers across 20 states, research on new products, value addition and exports. In 2023-24, India had 3.05 lakh hectares under turmeric with production of 10.74 lakh tonnes, and accounted for over 70% of global turmeric production. Representatives of Maharashtra and Telangana, the top two growing states, and Meghalaya, known for Lakadong turmeric, will be on the Board.
