Mera Gaon Meri Dharohar portal: 4.5 lakh of 6.5 lakh villages now live

On 3 February 2025, in Parliament in New Delhi, Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat told the Lok Sabha in a written reply that the National Mission on Cultural Mapping (NMCM), implemented by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), launched the Mera Gaon Meri Dharohar (MGMD) portal in June 2023 as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. It aims to document the cultural heritage of 6.5 lakh villages, and 4.5 lakh villages are currently live with their cultural portfolios, covering oral traditions, art forms, traditional food, fairs and festivals, dress and local landmarks.
