The National HPV Vaccination Campaign has administered more than 80 lakh (8 million) doses of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine since Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched it in February 2026, the Union Health Ministry said on 11 September 2026. Under the campaign, 14-year-old girls receive a voluntary, free, single-dose HPV vaccine with parental consent at government health facilities, to prevent cervical cancer. Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram have covered 100% of their target groups; Bihar, Andhra Pradesh and Assam have crossed 90%, and Karnataka 85%. Uttar Pradesh leads in numbers with more than 22 lakh girls vaccinated. As per Registrar General of India 2021 estimates, about 1.2 crore girls form the annual cohort of 14-year-olds.
