On 14 October 2024, in New Delhi, Union Minister for Power Manohar Lal launched the National Electricity Plan (Transmission), prepared by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), during a two-day CEA brainstorming conclave (14-15 October 2024). The plan aims to transmit 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 and over 600 GW by 2032. It adds over 1,91,000 ckm of transmission lines and 1,270 GVA of transformation capacity (220 kV and above) during 2022-23 to 2031-32, plus 33 GW of HVDC bi-pole links. Inter-regional capacity is to rise from 119 GW to 143 GW by 2027 and 168 GW by 2032. It considers 47 GW of battery storage and 31 GW of pumped storage, and shows an investment opportunity of over ₹9,15,000 crore till 2032.
