Sonowal reviews Namrup fertilizer plant; new ₹10,000 crore ammonia-urea complex planned

Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal reviewed works at the Namrup Fertilizer Plant of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Ltd (BVFCL) in Dibrugarh district, Assam, on 23 November 2025.

Summary

A new brownfield ammonia-urea complex with investment of over ₹10,000 crore, the fourth plant at the Namrup site, is expected to be completed in five years with capacity of 12.5 lakh metric tonnes a year. BVFCL is the oldest fertilizer unit in Northeast India. The expansion is expected to meet the needs of Northeast farmers and enable exports to Bhutan and Myanmar, besides serving West Bengal and Bihar.
