Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan inaugurated the National Geospatial Knowledge-based Land Survey of Urban Habitations (NAKSHA) pilot of the Department of Land Resources at Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, on 18 February 2025, in a function presided over by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. The pilot covers 152 urban local bodies in 26 states and 3 Union Territories, and launch events were held in parallel across them, with drones and GNSS rovers demonstrated. The Survey of India is the technical partner for aerial surveys and orthorectified imagery, the web-GIS platform is being built by the Madhya Pradesh State Electronic Development Corporation (MPSEDC), and storage is provided by NICSI. The pilot is expected to cost about ₹194 crore and is fully funded by the Government of India.
