Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio virtually commissioned the 10 MW Hovukhu Solar Power Plant (Phase I and II) on 15 August 2026 during the State's 80th Independence Day celebration at the Civil Secretariat Plaza, Kohima. Located at Hovukhu village in Niuland district, the plant covers 50 acres and was built at a cost of ₹69.26 crore under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) and the State plan, by the Department of New and Renewable Energy. The first 5 MW phase began in April 2022 and the second 5 MW phase in December 2023. The Chief Minister also launched an Education Management Information System (EMIS) for schools.
