MoSPI proposes city-level statistical reports for 47 million-plus cities

The National Statistics Office under MoSPI on 24 April 2026 proposed annual city-level statistical reports for 47 million-plus cities (as per Census 2011), based on PLFS and ASUSE data, and invited stakeholder comments.

Dedicated city-level statistical reports for 47 million-plus cities, as per Census 2011, were proposed by the National Statistics Office (NSO) under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on 24 April 2026. The reports will use existing data from the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) and the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE). Two annual thematic reports are proposed: an Employment Profile of Million-Plus Cities with indicators such as Labour Force Participation Rate, Worker Population Ratio and Unemployment Rate, and a City-Level Profile of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises. MoSPI invited comments on the framework, indicators and dissemination strategy.
