NSO begins NSS 80th Round, PLFS and ASUSE from January 2025 with district-level sample design
The district now forms the basic stratum for sample selection so that district-level estimates can be generated.
Summary
The National Statistics Office (NSO) under MoSPI announced on 2 January 2025 that the NSS 80th Round, the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) and the Annual Survey of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (ASUSE) would be conducted from January 2025. The NSO surveys use a modified sample design with the district as the basic stratum, enabling district-level estimates, monthly all-India estimates of key labour indicators from PLFS, quarterly PLFS estimates for rural areas and quarterly ASUSE estimates. Under the new arrangement, MoSPI will generate State and National estimates while State governments will produce district-level estimates; the NSS 80th Round covers Health (January–December 2025), Telecom and ICT skills (January–March) and Education (April–June).
