On 9 October 2024, in India, the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation released results of the Comprehensive Annual Modular Survey (CAMS), conducted from July 2022 to June 2023 as part of the 79th round of the National Sample Survey. About 96.9% of persons aged 15-24 can read and write simple statements with understanding and do simple arithmetic (97.8% males, 95.9% females). Mean years of formal schooling are 8.4 for persons aged 15 and above and 7.5 for those 25 and above. Average household out-of-pocket hospitalisation spending in the last 365 days was ₹4,129 in rural and ₹5,290 in urban areas. About 93.7% of the urban population has convenient access to low-capacity public transport within 500 metres.
