The Ministry of Panchayati Raj launched the Model Youth Gram Sabha initiative in New Delhi on 30 October 2025 to give school students hands-on experience of grassroots democracy.
Summary
The Model Youth Gram Sabha (MYGS) initiative was launched in New Delhi on 30 October 2025 by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj together with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. Through mock Gram Sabhas, students learn how local self-government and collective decision-making work. Aligned with NEP 2020, it will run in over 1,000 schools, including Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, Eklavya Model Residential Schools and state government schools. A training module and an MYGS portal were also unveiled.
