MoD signs ₹2,867 crore contracts for DRDO-AIP plug and heavy-weight torpedo integration on Kalvari-class submarines

The Ministry of Defence signed two contracts worth about ₹2,867 crore in New Delhi on 30 December 2024 in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. A contract of about ₹1,990 crore with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, Mumbai, covers construction of the Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) plug for the DRDO-developed AIP system and its integration on Indian submarines, which will enhance the endurance of conventional submarines and generate nearly three lakh man-days of employment. A second contract of about ₹877 crore with Naval Group, France, covers integration of the DRDO-developed Electronic Heavy Weight Torpedo (EHWT) on the Kalvari-class submarines to augment their firepower.
