On 30 November 2024, the Ministry of Defence signed a contract with Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), Kochi, Kerala, for the Short Refit and Dry Docking (SRDD) of the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya at an overall cost of ₹1,207.5 crore. INS Vikramaditya was commissioned into the Indian Navy in November 2013; after the refit it will rejoin the active fleet with upgraded combat capability. The ministry called the project an important step in developing CSL as a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) hub. It involves nearly 50 MSMEs and is expected to generate employment for more than 3,500 personnel, supporting Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India.
