MNRE amends ALMM order for solar PV cells; 1 June 2026 date unchanged
On 28 July 2025, MNRE amended the ALMM order for solar PV cells so that the mandate applies only one month after the ALMM list for cells is published.
Summary
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) issued an amendment on 28 July 2025 to its order of 9 December 2024 on the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) for solar PV cells. Under the amendment, ALMM for solar PV cells becomes mandatory only one month after the cells list is published, which is under process, easing procedures for projects bid out by government agencies, including under Section 63 of the Electricity Act, 2003. The requirement for projects commissioned from 1 June 2026 stays unchanged. ALMM for solar PV modules has applied since 10 April 2021. Domestic manufacturing capacity stands at 91 GW of modules and 27 GW of cells.
