GST cuts to benefit Mizoram's GI-tagged Bird's Eye Chilli, bamboo crafts, passion fruit and tourism

GST on processed Mizo Bird's Eye Chilli, ginger and turmeric falls from 18% to 5%; processed fruit products such as passion fruit juice and pulp fall from 12–18% to 5%; all bamboo and cane products move to 5%; and hotel rooms up to ₹7,500 a night are taxed at 5%. The GI-tagged, organically grown Mizo Bird's Eye Chilli is mainly grown in Lunglei, Siaha and Lawngtlai districts, with first official export of 7.5 tonnes to the United States in March 2023. Mizoram is India's third-largest producer of passion fruit, and bamboo covers nearly 51% of its land area. In 2024–25 the state produced over 60,000 tonnes of ginger.
