On 11 October 2025, at IARI, New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses, which runs from 2025–26 to 2030–31 with a budget of ₹11,440 crore. The mission was announced in the Union Budget 2025–26 and approved by the Union Cabinet on 1 October 2025. It aims to raise domestic pulses production to 350 lakh tonnes and the area under pulses to 310 lakh hectares by 2030–31, and to procure 100% of Tur (Arhar), Urad and Masoor at MSP for four years under PM-AASHA. It will distribute 88 lakh free seed kits and 126 lakh quintals of certified seed, track seed quality through the SATHI portal, and support 1,000 processing and packaging units with subsidies of up to ₹25 lakh each. Nearly 2 crore farmers are expected to benefit. Pulses production rose from 192.6 lakh tonnes in 2013–14 to 252.38 lakh tonnes in 2024–25 (third advance estimates).
