On 13 November 2024 at Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi, the Ministry of Mines signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Energy Agency (IEA) on cooperation in the area of critical minerals. The MoU, approved by the Union Cabinet on 3 October 2024, was signed by Mines Secretary V L Kantha Rao and IEA Executive Director Dr Fatih Birol, and exchanged in the presence of Union Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy. It is meant to give India access to reliable data, help align its critical-mineral policies, regulations and investment strategies with global practice, and support capacity building and knowledge exchange with IEA member states.
