The Ministry of Mines said on 30 March 2025 that, as per provisional data, iron ore production rose 4.4% to 263 million metric tonnes (MMT) in April–February of FY 2024-25 from 252 MMT a year earlier. Iron ore accounts for 70% of the value of MCDR mineral production. Manganese ore output rose 12.8% to 3.4 MMT, bauxite 3.6% to 22.7 MMT and lead concentrate 3.5% to 352 thousand tonnes. Primary aluminium rose 0.9% to 38.36 lakh tonnes and refined copper 7.1% to 4.97 lakh tonnes. The ministry said India is the second-largest aluminium producer, among the top ten refined copper producers, and the fourth-largest iron ore producer in the world.
