Military Nursing Service officers brought under Ex-Servicemen re-employment rules

The Ex-servicemen (Re-employment in Central Civil Services and Posts) Amendment Rules, 2026, which extend Ex-Servicemen status to the Military Nursing Service, came into force on publication on 9 February 2026, the Ministry of Defence said.

The Ministry of Defence said the amendment came into force on publication on 9 February 2026. Rule 2(c)(i) of the 1979 Rules now lists the Military Nursing Service alongside the Regular Army, Navy and Air Force. Retiring MNS officers become eligible for Ex-Servicemen benefits, including reservation of 10% in Group 'C' and 20% in Group 'D' central government posts and age relaxation. The MNS is part of the Armed Forces Medical Services along with the Army Medical Corps and Army Dental Corps.
