Meghalaya's first block-level climate vulnerability study: 25 of 39 blocks high or very high

A block-level climate vulnerability assessment by the Meghalaya Climate Change Centre, released on 29 November 2025, found 25 of the state's 39 C&RD blocks in the high or very high vulnerability categories.

Summary

The Department of Science and Technology said the Meghalaya Climate Change Centre (MCCC) assessed all 39 Community & Rural Development (C&RD) blocks under the National Mission for Sustaining the Himalayan Ecosystem (NMSHE), using a common national framework. 25 blocks fall in high or very high vulnerability. Main drivers are limited institutional credit, low household incomes, weak health and nutrition infrastructure such as Anganwadi centres, scarce forest resources and low irrigation.
